IL&FS Metro Station

The IL&FS Metro Station in Mumbai was designed as part of the city's first metro corridor — a landmark infrastructure project that connected Mumbai's disparate neighbourhoods with rapid transit for the first time. DesignFakt's design responds to the city's climate through deep cantilever canopies that shade platforms while admitting diffused daylight, reducing the station's dependence on artificial lighting.

The station's structural system is expressed rather than concealed, with the steel frame becoming the primary architectural element at platform and concourse level. The result is a building that reads as infrastructure — honest about its purpose, rigorous in its geometry, and generous in its public quality. DesignFakt delivered complete architectural design for this IL&FS Engineering and Construction Company project.
