Mahim Causeway
The Mahim Causeway in Mumbai connects two of the city's most historically significant neighbourhoods — Mahim and Bandra — across a tidal estuary that has been the site of crossings since the Portuguese era. DesignFakt's redesign proposal preserves the causeway's historic carriageway while introducing a dedicated pedestrian and cycling spine, landscaped mangrove walkways, and interpretive public art.
The design takes the mangrove ecosystem as both constraint and opportunity. Rather than treating the ecological edge as a boundary to be fenced, the pedestrian promenade extends into the mangroves on a lightweight steel boardwalk, bringing the city into intimate contact with one of Mumbai's most significant natural systems. DesignFakt delivered complete masterplan and detailed design.
