Mahout Harbour

Mahout Harbour in Al Wusta Governorate is one of a series of new harbour facilities designed by DesignFakt for the Government of Oman as part of a national coastal infrastructure programme. The design creates a protected basin with modern jetty facilities, a fishing landing centre with refrigeration and processing, and public waterfront infrastructure serving the town of Mahout.

The buildings follow the simple geometry of Omani coastal architecture — flat roofs, whitewashed walls, and deep arcaded verandahs — adapted to the programmatic requirements of a modern fishing harbour. The public areas are designed to be comfortable in the extreme heat of the Arabian summer, with generous shade and natural ventilation throughout.
