PMAY Building

The PMAY Building in Amravati is an affordable housing project under India's Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana programme. DesignFakt's approach to the project begins with a simple conviction: housing at the scale of public subsidy need not sacrifice spatial quality. Each unit is designed for adequate floor area, cross-ventilation, and access to daylight — the minimum standards of a dignified living environment.

The building's shared spaces are designed with the same care as the private units. Ground-floor colonnades provide shaded public space along the street; an internal courtyard provides a play space and community garden for residents. The building's compact form minimises the cost per square metre while maximising the number of units that can be accommodated on the site.
