Prayer Hall at Harbours

The Prayer Hall at Harbours is a series of small-scale sacred buildings inserted into the public areas of DesignFakt's Omani harbour projects. Serving the fishermen, sailors, and harbour workers whose daily rhythm is structured by the call to prayer, these buildings were designed with the same rigour applied to the larger harbour infrastructure — the smallest building deserving the most precise thought.

Each prayer hall draws on the traditional Omani mosque typology — an arched prayer hall opening onto a small courtyard for ablution — simplified and abstracted to create a structure that reads as both locally rooted and architecturally timeless. The courtyard walls are oriented precisely to qibla; the natural light entering through a single high aperture marks the passage of the day on the prayer hall floor. DesignFakt delivered complete architectural design and documentation.
